To be A Loving & Life-Giving Church Who Brings Hope & Healing in Jesus’ Name.
We desire to be a Loving & Life-Giving Church who brings Hope & Healing in Jesus’ name. From the words we use, to the demeanor we exhibit, to the way we use the resources God entrusts us with, we want to always be a church that proudly claims, “Whoever you are, however you feel, whatever you’ve done…Rise With Us!”
Wake Up, Rise & Shine. Wake Up to Jesus, Rise to Life & Shine to Others.
We yearn to see those far from God draw near to God through Christ. We yearn to see people live life as God expected life to be. We yearn for people to realize they can be used by God to help those around them. In the simplest of terms, we yearn to be a church that makes disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus.
Wake up, sleeper, Rise from the dead, and Christ will Shine on you.
– Ephesians 5:14 (NIV)
Everything we do at Rise City Church should fit into one of these categories. These 4 values reflect the kind of people that we want to be at Rise City and they are the glue that hold everything together.
1. GOSPEL-CENTERED | Grace Over Good
We discover new life in Christ through His completed work rather than our continual efforts.
2. JOURNEY-MINDED | Incremental Over Instant
We become more like Christ through a lifelong process rather than an overnight occurrence.
3. COMMUNITY-FOCUSED | Investment Over Isolation
We practice the love of Christ in the context of authentic relationships rather than by ourselves.
4. ACTION-ORIENTED | Give Over Get
We carry out the mission of Christ by giving ourselves away rather than always wanting more.
In essential beliefs – we have unity. (Ephesians 4:4-6) In non-essential beliefs – we have liberty. (Romans 14:1-3) In all of our beliefs – we show love. (1 Corinthians 13:2)
We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to man and to become the Savior of the lost. (Matthew 3:16-17; 1 John 5:7-8)
We believe that man was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him, but became alienated from that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man is totally incapable of coming back into a right relationship with God by his own effort. (Genesis 1:26; Romans 3:23)
We believe that Jesus Christ (the Son of God) became flesh to reveal God to man and to become the promised Savior to the lost. He, being fully God and fully man, is the only person to have lived a sinless life. (Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1, 14; I Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:15)
We believe that the blood shed of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, salvation only occurs when a person places their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for their sin. (Luke 24:46-47; John 1:29; Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:7-9; Revelation 5:9)
THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word and everyday yielding to the Spirit, every believer should mature and become conformed to the image of Christ. (Matthew 16:24; John 14:23; Galatians 5:25; II Corinthians 3:18; I Thessalonians 4:3)
We believe that the church is the body of Christ of which Jesus Christ is the Head. The members are those who have trusted by faith in the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to a lost world. (I Corinthians 12:27; Ephesians 1:22-23, 3:10-11)
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit took residence within those who placed their trust in Jesus Christ after he ascended into heaven, and the same is true today. The Holy Spirit is evident and active throughout the entire Bible, but the indwelling of the Spirit in the life of a believer began after Jesus’ ascension. The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to edify and empower the individual believer and church. The Holy Spirit is alive and active today, as well as the gifts of the Spirit chronicled in the New Testament. (Acts 1:5, 8; Ephesians 3:16)
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit to write the very words of Scripture. It is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that all may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
